Top Ten Favorite Movies (as of now)

Honorable Mentions:
The Thing  (1982)
-The claustrophobic slow burning nature of the movie is scarier than the thing itself; but even today the monster looks fantastic.

Starship Troopers
-Another cheesetastic tongue in cheek, almost-parody of war and the government in general.

A Nightmare on Elm Street  (1984)
-A dark rocking 80s movie with more depth than you might imagine and a very interesting lore.

Gremlins
-The ultimate monster movie; anyone who doesn't enjoy this movie is lying.  And that scene about Kate's dad dressing up as Santa is still disturbing.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
-The best teen movie ever made.  Ferris Bueller is truly the kid everyone wanted to be.

10. Hook
-Probably not Spielberg's best movie or even Robin William's best role, but it's super quotable and I still get chills when he flies for the first time.

9. Scream
-A smart, funny slasher movie that almost delves into parody.  A great cast and a cool twist make it one of the best slashers of all time, let alone the 90s.

8. Groundhog Day
-Probably the best premise for a movie of all time, and carried by Bill Murray's hilariously douchey performance, but not so douchey that you don't buy his transformation.

7. Ghostbusters
-This is the quintessential 80s movie, just go watch it right now if you've never seen it.

6.  Spider-Man trilogy
-Maybe it's a cop out, putting a whole trilogy on here, but I don't care.  Sam Raimi is at his best when he's mixing cheesiness with legitimately likable characters.  Definitely a unique blend that no other superhero movie can offer.

5. Donnie Darko
-A movie where emotion means way more than the crazy, almost indecipherable plot.  Just stay away from the Director's Cut, which shoots itself in the foot by trying to answer questions that you don't want to know.

4. Super
-This has only been out a few months but I'm fully confident in putting it here.  It's that good.  Great off-kilter tone and one of the most philosophically gray movies ever.  All of the performances are simultaneously hilarious and moving, and pretty much everything works, from the script to the fantastic score.

3. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
-Really any of the original Star Wars trilogy could go here, but Episode IV has the best pacing and the most fun of the bunch.

2. Die Hard
-Hands down the greatest action movie (and greatest action hero) of all time.  Along with one of the most memorable villains ever and an incredibly iconic setting, this is hands down the best Christmas movie ever made.

1. Back to the Future
-The best kinds of movies are the kind you can watch over and over.  There is nothing that could be added to this movie to make it better.  It's the perfect movie.
