Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth (2000) - Review

This is not a movie.  This is an abomination of everything that is good in the world.  This is an affront to parodies.  This makes Epic Movie look watchable!  Okay, maybe not, but still.  I had zero expectations going into this, but somehow it managed to disappoint me in such a way that I haven't felt since I found out that Tales from the Darkside only had four seasons.

There are hundreds of gags in this film, and the movie retains a respectable batting average of 0, because not a single one of them lands.  There are not one, but TWO Buffy alums in this (Danny Strong and Julie Benz; or Jonathan and Darla if you're not a complete nerd and don't know every Buffy cast member's name) and that makes it all the more painful to watch.

As far as the film itself goes, it's basically Scary Movie.  Scary Movie is not very good, but somehow this even disappoints on the extra low bar reserved for parody (or pardoy, to those in the biz) movies.  Its primary influences are clearly Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer; both are fun 90s slashers (though Scream is far superior) but Scream itself is a satire on slashers...You can't really parody a parody, it just doesn't work.  Combine that with the fact that this movie wouldn't know funny if it watched Psych and it makes for one fairly awful viewing experience.  Steer clear of this crap and just go watch Scream instead.  Even Scary Movie would be an improvement.
